Dr. Funk is a Washington native and is a 1979 graduate of Washington Community High School. He graduated cum laude from Western Illinois University, and attended professional school at the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, Illinois graduating in 1989. While attending Western, Dr. Funk was a member of the Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society and a Deans List Student. At the Illinois College of Optometry, he earned membership in the professions two highest honor societies, Beta Sigma Kappa and Tomb and Key. He also received an excellence in Pediatric Care Award. Dr. Funk served his pediatric internship at Little City in Palatine, Illinois. His professional affiliations include the American Optometric Association and the National Board of Examiners in Optometry. Approximately 600 optometrists are selected to serve as examiners for the National Boards. The National Boards are responsible for the nationwide certification and licensing of newly graduated optometrists. Dr. Funk has actively served as an examiner and clinical supervisor from 1991-2000. On December 10, 2000, Dr. Funk was awarded fellowship in the American Academy of Optometry. The Review of Optometry has published his work on Sterile Infiltrative Keratitis. Dr. Funk resides in Washington with his wife Joni and son Gabriel.
