  Corneal Refractive Therapy

Accelerated Corneal Molding/Corneal Refractive Therapy
Accelerated corneal molding/Corneal Refractive Therapy is a non-surgical reversible procedure in which a series or single set of custom designed rigid gas permeable contact lenses (retainers) are used to gently change the shape of the cornea. This is done in an attempt to reduce the patient’s dependence on corrective eyewear. In some ways this is a similar to the use of dental appliances (retainers and braces) by an orthodontist to straighten crooked teeth. Progressive Myopia Control
Progressive myopia control is a means of preventing your child from wearing coke bottle glasses. A specialized computer (Keratron Corneal Topographer) and computer software allows Dr. Funk to custom design lenses which may help halt or slow the progression of Nearsightedness. As you know, eye doctors hardly ever tell anyone that their myopia or Nearsightedness will improve. Usually it is just the opposite; expect it to get worse. Focus Night and Day Lenses (by Ciba Vision)
These lenses have been FDA approved for 30 days of continuous wear (day & night). They are in no way similar to the extended wear lenses of the past. They are six times more oxygen permeable than the ordinary soft disposable or conventional soft lenses. However, your eye care practitioner should determine the suggested wearing schedule. You must also be monitored closely during the first 30 nights of continuous wear. The benefits of these lenses are less redness than ordinary soft lenses, less protein and bacterial buildup and no increases in microscopic corneal changes – with overnight swelling similar to wearing no lenses at all. Focus Night and Day lenses are a great alternative for those patients who do not wish to undergo surgery in order to correct their vision, or people who simply don’t want the hassle of taking contact lenses in and out and night or wearing glasses. Focus Night and Day lenses may be an excellent choice for you. Please call our office if you have any questions about this new and exciting product.
